About Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens is a world-renowned author and one of the most prolific writers in history. Born in England in 1812, his works are known for their vivid characters, social commentary, and richly detailed settings. As an adult, he gained fame for novels such as A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations, which have become literary classics.
Dickens' work often focused on themes of inequality, poverty and injustice; much of this was based on his own experiences with harsh working conditions and financial hardship as a child. He wrote about the plight of the working class during Britain's Industrial Revolution to expose Victorian England's injustices to the public at large. His stories have been adapted into countless films and other media over the years, making him one of literature's best-loved authors around the world. Find out more about Charles Dickens.
