David Copperfield Synopsis
The Personal History of David Copperfield, also known simply as David Copperfield, is a novel written by English author Charles Dickens. It was published in 1850. This is an autobiographical work of Dickens and is considered his most famous. Charles Dickens takes a lot of inspiration from his monumental life experiences.
David Copperfield was born in Blunderstone, Suffolk, and raised by his mother and her housekeeper. David's father died six months before he was born. David was visiting Yarmouth, where he met Mr. Peggotty, Ham, and Emily. His life worsens after his return from Yarmouth, and he finds that his mother has married Mr. Edward Murdstone. David dislikes his stepfather's rude and controlling behavior. One day Mr. Murdstone is about to beat David, and as a defense, David bites Mr. Murdstone's hand, resulting in David being sent to a boarding school run by Mr. Creakle. At the boarding school, he befriends Tommy Traddles and James Steerforth. During David's second semester at the school, tragedy struck when his mother passed away shortly after giving birth to a baby boy who did not survive. David faces numerous challenges as he grows up.
