That Kind of Party Synopsis
"That Kind of Party" is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was released in the summer of 1951, following Fitzgerald's passing, in the Princeton University Library Chronicle. This particular short story from Basil Duke Lee's collection is the only one that was turned down by The Saturday Evening Post. Terrence R. Tipton walked home from a party that changed his life because he had just kissed Dolly Bartlett. When Terrence arrives home, his mother asks whether he would like to make a party as he has gone to so much. Though Terrence hesitates to say yes at first, the possibility of having a party and being near Dolly again intrigues him.
Excerpt from That Kind of Party Online Book
After the party was over a top-lofty Stevens Duryea and two 1909 Maxwells waited with a single victoria at the curb—the boys watched as the Stevens filled with a jovial load of little girls and roared away. Then they strung down the street in threes and fours, some of them riotous, others silent and thoughtful. Even for the always surprised ages of ten and eleven when the processes of assimilation race hard to keep abreast of life, it had been a notable afternoon.
