I Didn’t Get Over Synopsis
"I Didn't Get Over" is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was published in Esquire on October 1936.
At a college reunion, a group of war veterans, who went by the name "War Babies," were sharing tales about their time on the battlefield. During their conversation, a friend named Hibbings joined in and caught everyone's attention when he mentioned the name Abe Denzer. This fellow classmate was considered a hero in their group. Nobody ever knew what happened to him, but according to Hibbings, General Brown assigned Abe the critical mission of safely transporting the soldiers across a river using a raft during the war.
Excerpt from I Didn’t Get Over Online Book
I was 'sixteen in college and it was our twentieth reunion this year. We always called ourselves the "War Babies"--anyhow we were all in the damn thing and this time there was more talk about the war than at any previous reunion; perhaps because war's in the air once more.
About F. Scott Fitzgerald
F. Scott Fitzgerald is widely recognized as one of the greatest American authors of the 20th century. His writing, which often explored the idea of a "lost generation" in post-World War I America, has had a lasting impact on literature and popular culture. Born in 1896 to a middle-class family in St Paul, Minnesota, Fitzgerald was an exceptionally bright student with ambitions for life as a writer from an early age. Although his first novel, This Side Of Paradise, was released to great fanfare when he was just 24 years old, The Great Gatsby would cement his legacy and make him one of America's most beloved authors. Fitzgerald died at 44 from complications from alcoholism; however, his influence can still be seen today with adaptations of his work appearing in television, film, and theatre adaptations worldwide.
