Author: F. Scott Fitzgerald | Published: February 21, 1931

Babylon Revisited Synopsis

"Babylon Revisited" is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, first published in The Saturday Evening Post on February 21, 1931. Later, it was also published in Taps at Reveille in 1935. Due to his drinking issue, Charlie Wales, a single parent, is stripped of his daughter's custody. Charlie's daughter is cared for by Marion Peters, the sister of Charlie's late wife. Marion and her husband are considering giving Charlie custody because he has turned his life around. But, when Charlie's old drinking friend Duncan and Lorraine shows up at Marion's door drunk and looking for him, Marion has second thoughts.

Excerpt from Babylon Revisited Online Book

"And where's Mr. Campbell?" Charlie asked.

"Gone to Switzerland. Mr. Campbell's a pretty sick man, Mr. Wales."

"I'm sorry to hear that. And George Hardt?" Charlie inquired.

"Back in America, gone to work."

"And where is the Snow Bird?"

"He was in here last week. Anyway, his friend, Mr. Schaeffer, is in Paris."

About F. Scott Fitzgerald

Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most celebrated authors in American history. Born in 1896 to a middle-class family in St. Paul, Minnesota, Fitzgerald wrote various short stories and novels that are still admired today. His works are considered classics, such as The Great Gatsby, This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, and Tender is the Night. He was married to Zelda Sayre, and they were an iconic couple of the Roaring Twenties.

His works often examine the dark side of life during the Jazz Age - a period known for its lavish parties, decadence, and glamour. His works explore themes such as idealism versus cynicism, nostalgia versus hope for the future, and traditional values versus modernity. To this day, Fitzgerald's work continues to inspire readers worldwide. Find out more about F. Scott Fitzgerald at sevenov.com.
