About Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens is one of the most well-known and beloved authors of all time. He was born in 1812, in Portsmouth, England and has since become immortalized for his works such as A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations and Oliver Twist. His writings offer a glimpse into the social injustices of the 19th century.

His life was marked by both hardship and success. After his father’s imprisonment for debt, Dickens had to leave school to work in a factory at 12 years old. This experience heavily influenced many of his later works. Despite these struggles, he went on to become an influential figure in British literature with numerous novels being adapted for stage or film throughout history.
